Cape Town get-together

Marius Brand's picture

Okay, okay, so I said I was going to organize something, like, 2 months ago. Well back off, I've been busy.

There have been increasing murmurings about the need for actually meeting each other face to face. I don't want to lose the momentum that's building here, so why wait till next year for 'official' gatherings with 'speakers' (and pulpits)?

I propose a lunch date on Monday 19 Nov, 12h00 at Obz Cafe. I know it's a work day, but for many in ministry its day off, the students are lazing around instead of studying and all you guys in IT work whenever the hell you like! If Nic, Kevin and Tim can make it then we can hear what they are doing. I hope some of the Paarl and Somerset West guys can make it too (find some excuse to do business in town).

So this is an open invitation to anyone who wants to put faces to names and feel a little less lonely as liberated, free-thinking, post-everything, spiritual junkies.

WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING ALERT

Regarding the 241 Cape Cohort members:
I know Bwjuta Bwjutakna, Debmfi Debmfijnj and her cousin Deqftg Deqftgdqo but Bwskso Bwsksoumm? I believe we have an imposter - Bwskso must be from the League of Rwandan Reformed Bloggers.

Where is the Blessed Congregation of the Inquisition when you need it?

But having 1000 members is cool!

You just might get to meet some Russian Spammers! hehe - I'm in the process of removing all those annoying auto-subscribes.

[time passes]

Ok, back to normal :)

Proof of emergent church waywardness.

1. You emphasise numerics at ANY cost.
2. You allow Ruso-Rwandans willy nilly into the meetings, never checking anyones passport.
3. It's all about "coolness".

Just how market driven, pro-immigration, and shallowly appearence-oriented are you emergents?

Response

I'm so offended I'm going to post a 7-part response showing you why you just don't understand. Reading a few books isn't going to help you "emerge." The problem is we're working in different bases: you arrogantly assumed that when I wrote "1000" I was working in base-10. Actually I was working in binary, so that number actually, translated into your old enlightenment-created, epistemologically certain, undeconstructable meta-narrative, reads "one."

Secondly, merely because I welcome the stranger and am open to G-d in the other, you accuse me of unjust immigration practices.

And lastly, "It's all about 'coolness'", well I concede: yes it is.

Grow a goatee.

i smell heresy

Hmmmm.

Having steeped myself in warnings against the emerging church, found on youtube, I am well equipped to see the dangers of emerging theology as put forward by Paton and Saner. I detect inklings of pantheism and buddhism here. Let me capture the essential danger, "Who really lies behind all the avatars?"

I'm sure one school will emerge (there's that word again) to argue that the avatar is not real but behind it lies a real person. But if one real person can manifest in several avatars, then why not MILLIONS!!!! Perhaps below every emergent-online-pseudo-identity there lies only one true emergent. Only the truly spiritual can detect this slide toward pantheism!!!

But then, another school may everge holding that the avatar is real and that there is no person lying behind it. If the avatar is all that is real, then certainly there is no substance to anything but binary. So, is the avatar and the internet truly 1? Or are they truly 0? Only the truly spiritual can detect this slide toward emptiness!!!

Furthermore, what's this heresy about inclusiveness? Did God/-ess not say to Her people - "Go unbathed in the desert!" away from civilisation! Are we not to divide so extensively that our very meat ought not share the same pot as the vegetable? Are we not to seperate between the goats and sheep? Clearly we should grow both a goatee and a sheepee. Knowing the true origins of the emergents' theology, I feel it important to ask what exactly you're planning doing with the goatee? Sacrifice? Goat chops? Cheese?

I will now proceed to shave my head in repentence for this post...

Further proof ...

1. You assume that a 7-part response is going to somehow magically sanctify it. DONG: Superstition.
2. So, in Base 10 speak, you are saying "1 member is cool". DONG: Individualism.
3. Coolness - DYA SEE THAT? HE ADMITTED IT. PSSSEUSH, I am speechless. ding.
4. Goatee - now thats just UNMITIGATED SATANIC PRACTICE. DOINGGGGG. [swoon]

Geez!

You guys just have too much time on your hands...

Steven, Obz Cafe is in Lower Main Rd in Observatory which branches off Main Rd just before Groote Schuur Hospital.

See you there.

For the workers among us

Hi Marius
Would love to get together, but Mondays are really not great for those of us with office hours. Might be able to pop in, but will only be able to tell closer to the time. Weekends and evenings much better. Nice idea though.

Emerging Church: A New Kind of Heresy?

Members of the Gospel Defense League will be pleased to know they can make one strategic strike at OBZ to speak the truth to lapsed christians part of the emerging church which has replaced the Bible with Brian Mclaren's "A New Kind of Heresy"... :P

I look forward to becoming conversant in Obz, see you all on the 19th.
