Heading To South Africa In May 2007

I am a lutheran pastor heading to South Africa in May of next year to partner with an existing ministry to minister with HIV/AIDS orphans.

We will be near Mafeking, SA. Anyone have any tips/guides/web resources? And any practical hints on visiting and not being the ugly American, etc?

Mafikeng

You will immediately find better resources online by looking for the contemporary spelling "Mafikeng" rather than the archaic "Mafeking".

Good wishes.

how can we be of help?

Just wonering if you already have the work/location worked out for the focus of your time here and need some advice for the rest of the trip, or are you at the beginning of the process and need help with the Mafikeng part of the trip as well?

As far as not being an "ugly American," I would recommend:

Coming to be with people more than coming to "help" people

Coming to listen more than coming to speak

Coming to better understand more than coming to visit

Coming to be transformed more than coming to accomplish something
